Coronado Heights Fire
There was a fire on Coronado Heights late in the afternoon today. I drove out to see if I could get any photos of the fire and the fire fighting activity. Keeping in mind that getting in the way was not an option, the closest I got to the fire was about 1/2 mile; yes, the Canon 100-400mm is a small telescope!
Hopefully there was no human injury or property damage, but I haven't heard anything either way. The houses that I know of in the area were unharmed.
From driving around the backside and then approaching from the west, it appears the fire damage circled the entire hilltop known as Coronado Heights. The firefighters seemed to gain control pretty quickly and appeared to be mopping up as the sun was setting.
Absent any injury or damage, this fire could actually be the start of something beautiful; wildflowers are known to grow especially well in an area that's been cleaned out by fire.
Here's a baker's dozen of the best photos I took today; of course there are a bunch more on flickr.
